First Haircut

He's needed it for a while, but this weekend we finally took Levi in to get his first haircut. Luckily it didn't take long to get an appointment at the prestigious Mason Barber Shop with Grandpa Terry. Things didn't start off too well as Levi started crying almost immediately after entering the barber shop. Once he got in the chair he seemed more interested in the ceiling fan than what was going on around him, and he did pretty well. By the end of the afternoon Levi and I both had haircuts and were looking good. Looks like he is going to take after dad with fast-growing hair, so we'll probably be making frequent visits to the barbershop.

Once Levi started rocking the mullet, we thought it was time for a haircut.

Getting ready for his first haircut.

Grandpa Terry hard at work...

He was supposed to be looking down, but he couldn't take his eyes off the ceiling fan.

Not a bad looking kid!

Grandpa Terry enjoyed giving Levi his first haircut.

Afterward Dad and son were all smiles and lookin' good.

In addition to the haircut milestone, Levi has started some other new things. He started eating vegetables this week. Mom decided on peas since they are one of her favorites (and one of dad's least faves). He didn't seem to like them at first, but by the end of the week was wolfing them down. This kid loves to eat! We also learned that he has been feeding himself his own bottle at daycare for a while now. On Valentine's Day, after his haircut, Grandma and Grandpa Chapin came and watched Levi while Courtney and I spent the day shopping and going out to dinner with our life group from church. He did pretty well for a while, until he woke up from his nap and freaked out because mom and dad weren't around. He's still not over the whole "stranger anxiety" thing I guess.

So each week brings new discoveries and milestones. What will this week bring? Stay tuned...

Who knew strained peas could be so delicious?

He needs a big hat now that his long hair won't be keeping him warm anymore.

Levi is all smiles...when he is eating.

Feeding himself his own bottle. Who knew?

Finally, an update

I've been pretty bad about updating the blog lately, and as a result our faithful blog followers are dwindling. So for the two of you still checking the blog, this post is for you.

Levi is doing great. He is eating cereal now and loves it. We're feeding it to him twice a day and he can't seem to get enough. Tomorrow we're going to start with veggies and then eventually fruits as well. He absolutely loves to eat.

No thanks Mom, I can do it myself.

He hasn't quite learned to chew with his mouth closed yet.

Levi is also learning new noises. The other night Courtney was feeding him and I walked into the room. He got real happy (as he does whenever he sees me, Dad is the best) and he started making a 'da' sound. Over and over and over again....dadadadadadada. So I was convinced he was saying dada. But of course he does not say it on command, and since then has only done it a couple of times. The other noise he has been making is a farting sound, which the video below helps illustrate.

I thought we had a little while longer before the fart noises started...

Everything else is going well. Prince is losing weight and super-active now that he is taking pills for hypo-thyroid. Apparently he wasn't all "grown up" like we thought, he just had a hormone imbalance that made him fat and lazy. Courtney is getting geared up to start grad school again and has been trying to finalize her internship location, which is supposed to start in August. I have been buried at work because our team has gone from 7 to 3 people since July, and our workload has not decreased. Additionally, being on-call every 3 weeks (instead of 7) has not been very much fun for anyone in the house. Most nights when I'm on-call we get woken up by Levi and the phone multiple times. But I am fortunate to have a great job so I won't complain...much.

On a lighter note, pitchers and catchers report this week, so Tigers baseball is almost upon us. After the putrid Lions and disappointing Pistons, it'll be a nice change of pace to watch another underachieving Detroit team. Let's hope the summer of '09 goes a little better for the Tigers (and their devoted fans!) than last summer did.

And since I've got nothing else, enjoy some more pictures of Levi.

All dressed up in his little moose sweater-vest.

Levi is always happy when he's almost naked.
Let's be honest though, who isn't?

Yes, those are mini man boobs you see.

There's nothing better than kicking back, wearing a green loin cloth,
eating a rubber ducky, and having someone else bathe you.

Most 6 month olds don't need a blow dryer for their hair,
but then again, most 6 month olds don't have a mop like this kid.
