My Farewell Tour to Youth

Last week I celebrated my 29th birthday. I have mixed emotions about turning 29 as I know that 30 is right around the corner. I don't feel "old", although I do admit that my body is not as spry as it used to be. My knees hurt more when I run or play basketball, I find myself recalling events from high school or college and then remembering that said events happened over 10 years ago, the frequency of gray on my head and beard is getting higher, and Levi is a walking talking reminder that I'm not as young as I used to be. But I'm not 30 yet, so I'm going to enjoy the age of 29 aka My Farewell Tour to Youth.

(I have to be careful when I talk about turning 30 as being old since my wife will be taking the plunge in less than 3 weeks. Shh....don't tell her I told you.)

So anyway, my birthday. It was about as good as a birthday could be. I took Friday off of work, and my parents came up in the morning. My mom spent some time with Levi while my dad took me golfing. We went to Eagle View in Mason, where I golfed for my league. I was hoping that taking him to my home course would give me an advantage. Not quite. I got a 10 on the first hole, and was scuffling big time after 5 holes. My dad observed another crappy drive of mine, and he said "Spread your legs wider and tee the ball up higher". I guess that was all the advice I need to become a borderline professional. I proceeded to have my best round of golf ever. I finished up the front with a 51, then shot a 41 on the back. Just to put it in perspective, I've golfed the back 9 on this course 8 times over the last 2 years and my scores have been 48, 51, 52, 52, 55, 55, 59, and 59. So I beat my best score on the back by 7 strokes, and I beat my best score ever (a 46) by 5.

Oh, and I had my first eagle ever too.

After golf, my parents took Levi home with them for his first overnight. He did awesome and had a great time. Courtney and I enjoyed our freedom by going out to dinner at Red Robin, watching a movie, and then watching the Tigers squeak out a victory. We missed our little guy but it was nice to have a break. So all in all, it was a pretty darn good birthday.

Courtney quit her job at the end of July so she could focus on her internship for school this fall. She has started going into the school she will be working at in recent weeks. She is looking forward to the internship and the different experiences she'll have. I'm transitioning into getting Levi around in the mornings and man, that really throws a wrench in my morning routine. I'm finding myself going to bed earlier at night and waking up earlier in the morning. It only took 29 years, but I think I might finally be reaching adulthood.

Levi is doing well. He has more teeth coming in so that is making him a little moodier than normal. He's also been eating a ton lately, so we're guessing he's going through a big growth spurt or something. He's saying a couple more words now: "woof" (when we ask him "what does a dog say?") and "up" (when he wants in his highchair or out of his crib). He also pats his head when we ask "where is your head?", although in the effort of full disclosure he also pats his head when we wask where his feet are at as well. So he's not quite genius level yet.

That's about all from here. Now if you'll excuse me, it's time to get started on mock draft #3 for my upcoming fantasy football league draft on Monday (aka the most important day of the year, unless Courtney is reading this in which case its not as important as other things like our anniversary or her birthday).

He's already getting ready for school, although "The Celebration of Discipline" might be a heavy read for a 1 year old.

Enjoying the slide at Uncle Ryan and Aunt Marnie's house.

Giving his 2nd cousin Cali a hug.

Levi and Maya with the Schlosser kids (2nd cousins).

Enjoying his new car (another garage sale find by mom).

Fun with eating

We've discovered that one of Levi's favorite pasttimes is eating. He is really enjoying the opportunity to try all new kinds of food (and make a mess while doing it). He is very active and is keeping mom and dad very busy. Enjoy the pictures!!

Enjoying raspberries for the first time.

Dad and Levi getting ready to eat some Lucky Charms.
Seriously, he'll come and beg at the table when I start eating until I pick him up and feed him some too.
He's like Prince...

Playing outdoors.

Drinking his "juju" (aka milk) and hanging out with Dad.

Trying chocolate ice cream for the first time.

I think we have a winner!!!

Technical Difficulties

It's been a couple weeks since the last blog update so I thought I would throw something up here really quick. The last couple of weeks have been pretty crazy as we've experienced the rule of "whatever can go wrong will go wrong". Just to summarize, our lawn mower broke, our desktop computer has a pretty serious virus that I'm working on removing, and Levi has not been feeling well so that throws everything off. As I type he is screaming from his bed. He has stopped taking naps for the most part, but then doesn't go to sleep until 10-11 at night and then wakes up very early in the morning. He's obviously very tired but for some reason he does not want to go to bed. It makes it very frustrating for mom and dad when they have about 5 minutes of time a day to see each other and talk without a baby screaming in the background.

Levi had his one year appointment last week and measured out as follows: 22 lbs 3 oz and 29 inches. Apparently he is on the smaller side, as he was in the 25-30th percentile for everything. At the moment he is in the 99th percentile for getting on dad's nerves for screaming at 10:30 when he should be sleeping.

But lest you should think I am a heartless monster, here are some happier Levi moments. Levi has been amazing us with his ability to learn new things. His new word is "juice", which he says whenever he wants something to drink. His favorite word is still "ball" which he yells every time he sees something round. He is walking everywhere now and almost never crawls. Most of the time he is a lot of fun and he makes mom and dad laugh quite frequently.

Not very many new pictures to share, but what these pictures lack in quantity they make up for in the sheer cuteness factor. Enjoy!!

Going for a ride in his empty diaper box.

Revvin' up his 4-wheeler.

I know, I know...its not a Lions jersey.
I just want him to grow up rooting for a winning team.
