But instead I ended up with a lot of Johnny Wockenfuss cards.
So what does that have to do with you? Well, this blog post is going to be like one of those grab bags. Sure, you'll get a lot of quantity. Its been over a month since my last update and a lot has happened. But will you get the quality you've come to expect? You'll have to read on to find out.
Levi turned two years old last week.
Last year Levi was sick on his birthday and it wasn't a very fun day for him. This year, fortunately, was a lot better. He was in great spirits and had a fantastic day. He had been practicing before his birthday by singing the Happy Birthday song to mom and dad. He was very excited to hear the song finally sung to him on his birthday.

Even though we tried to ruin it for him with our poor vocal skills.
Courtney spent a lot of time and baked him an incredible birthday cake. He loves Sesame Street and his favorite character is Cookie Monster, so guess who ended up on his cake?
Levi got a lot of fun gifts, including a garbage truck from Papa and Grandma Chapin, some big (fake) bugs from Papa T and Grandma Carla, a Little People Fire Station from Mom and Dad, some clothes from Aunt Mindy, and a noise making puzzle with all kinds of vehicles on it from Aunt Marnie and Uncle Ryan. He had a great birthday and we are very thankful to our families for their generous gifts.
In a less-heralded development, Lucas turned two months old last week as well.
So you may have forgotten that we have another child as well. His name is Lucas, and apparently he's going to be a big kid. He had a great two month check-up and he is a lot bigger than Levi was at his 2 month check-up. How much different were they? Break it down for us, html table (they don't pay me at work to be stupid)!
Lucas is a pretty good baby. He eats and sleeps better than Levi did, but when he gets upset its far worse than Levi ever was. He did sleep through the night a couple nights ago which was awesome. He hasn't done it since though so we hope it wasn't just a fluke occurrence. He's becoming more interactive, which is a lot of fun. He smiles and coos now all the time. I think we'll keep him.

Levi is done with daycare.
Courtney is planning on staying at home with the kids for the next year at least, so we decided to pull Levi out of daycare. It really didn't make sense for him to continue with Courtney at home. This past Monday was his last day and he hasn't talked about school much since then which is nice. He really did enjoy going there and we feel it was very good for him. But now him and Lucas are at home with mommy full-time. Thankfully our families have offered to help her out because I'm pretty sure she'd go crazy by mid-September if not.
Levi's art projects from his time in school.
How many trees died for the sake of Levi's art?

Summer fun.
We've been busy this past month, but we've had some fun as well. I went to New York City for work. We spent a few days at our friend's cottage near Lake Michigan. We went to a Freed family reunion on the 4th of July. We (obviously) celebrated Levi's 2nd birthday. I've been out for more than a few rounds of golf. So in spite of the extreme busyness that comes from having two kids, juggling everyday life, and keeping up with my increased responsibilities at work, we've taken some time to have some fun.
If you made it this far, you deserve a reward.
So here it is...some free advice.
1) See Inception. It was incredible...absolutely a Top 10 movie for me. What are my Top 10 movies, you ask? Don't tempt me, you know how much I love making lists. Maybe another post.
2) Watch Arrested Development. Courtney and I just finished all 3 seasons and it was great. My 2nd favorite comedy show ever (behind Seinfeld). I can't believe a show that funny didn't have enough viewers to last...but then again I didn't start watching it until 5 years after the show ended. So maybe I'm partly to blame.
3) That's all. Good night.

My comments:
1) LOVE the cake! Tell Courtney that if she doesn't read these comments herself. Gosh, if she didn't have two little kids and thus no time, I would totally pay her to do Ethan's birthday cake in a couple of months. Awesome job!
2) Lucas is getting so cute! I can see that he's growing fast! My kids all grew fast like that. They were all 20 lbs. by 6 months and I've got the biceps to show for it! :o)
3) Don't worry about the pink blanket -- people will just know that he has a big sister. Oh, wait...
4) I've discovered that I'm probably related to you. There are Chapins in my mother's family and apparently all Chapins in the United States are believed to be descended from an Albert W. Chapin of Worcester, England. How 'bout that? The most recent Chapin in my family died in 1790, though, so it's pretty distant! Deacon Samuel Chapin (1598 - 1675) could be a common ancestor, and there's a statue of him in Springfield, MA. (check it out: http://www.flickr.com/photos/63vwdriver/4339667386/)
5) Have a great week!
That is one good looking family you got there. Looks like you guys are doing really great. I cant believe how big Levi is getting. He is just so adorable. I think Lucas is looking alot like Courtney's side of the family. One kid from each side, thats great.
Matt-
I love your blog. I wish I was better at it, but I am not. Courtney will definitely need some R&R after being home full time with two little people. I have been home since the end of April with our little dudes!! I think I am ready for bed before they are. Isn't it amazing how things seem so much better the second time around. One would think that having a second kid would be crazier than the first, maybe a little, but I think by now you've realized that you aren't going to break or kill them, so everything just rolls with the flow. Tell Courtney I said hello! Take care! Keep up the blog! =)
